Unfortunately this occurred many many months ago and I didn't save any
logs or the correspondence.  Upon reflection, the hotmail farm servers
themselves may not have had the problem.  The servers sending the abuse
desk acks definitely had the problem--mismatched forward/reverse names.
 I specifically had to disable reject_unknown_client_hostname to allow
them through.  I wasn't about to whitelist them.

After this saga I switched back to
reject_unknown_reverse_client_hostname and haven't had problems with MS
or any other site since, WRT these checks.
