IIRC $tls_random_source is a left over from the time when TLS was a patch and OpenSSL wasn't able to find out itself where it would find random. (I think I recall Lutz Jänicke, developer of the TLS patch, telling me this) These days OpenSSL is able to determine which random source it wants to use.
