Hi Wietse,

Thanks for getting back to me.

1) Its a connection to port 25587; a substitute for 587 (see (2) below)

2) Its behind a haproxy box, which in turn is behind a NAT router. I haven't implemented postfix (yet)

3) inet_protocols = ipv4

Relevant line from mastr.conf:

25587       inet  n        -       -       -        -        smtpd
  -o smtpd_tls_security_level=encrypt
  -o smtpd_upstream_proxy_protocol=haproxy

I *think* things are working OK ie mail is flowing into and out of the system (its still in "prototype" testing) - its just the logs are filling up with the OP error message

Hi All,

I need some help in interpreting the following postfix log message,
please (this is showing up all over the log):

`Feb 24 17:46:55 mail postfix/smtpd[77980]: fatal:
smtpd_peer_hostaddr_to_sockaddr: cannot convert client address/port to
string: Servname not supported for ai_socktype`
The getaddrinfo(3) system library function cannot convert a (presumably
numerical IP address and numerical port) for the socket type
SOCK_STREAM into the internal form "struct addrinfo", and returns
the EAI_SERVICE error code.
I've looked online but I can't find an exact match and I can't work out
the problem (or, more importantly, how to fix the problem) from the near
and not-so-near google matches.

I'm not sure what to include re: (other) logs, config files etc, so
please feel free to ask if required? :-)
1) Is this a connection to port 25, 587, 465?

2) Is this a direct connection to an smtpd(8) process or is it first
accepted by postscreen, haproxy, or (nginx+)xclient?

3) What is the output from "postconf inet_protocols"?

        Wietse
