Your 3.7 may be older than the branch point of 3.8, so just in case see:

though the differences between 3.7.0 and 3.7.x for x>=1 should be minor
bug fixes, no feature changes.  Whether it is "safe" depends on who
built your 3.7 version, and whether there are changes in there that are
not upstream, and whether later OS packages might decide to overwrite
the 3.9 binaries, ... So, to build from source, you have to know what
you're doing.  The problem is not feature changes, but rather correct
platform integration.
