Perhaps some milter or similar is decoding quoted-printable content that
QP-encoded a bare CR, and subsequent processing then throws the error.
In any case, yes Postfix is not at fault here, the ball is in Sendmail's
court (or more generally the email software stack on the receiving
machine).
