I think you're mixing with Return Reciepts.
Mail recipients do not play a role in DSN delivery,
MTAs do,
and in fact,
it's not even on the recipient side,
but on the sender side,
in which case you receive something like this:

"This is the mail system at host [...]

Your message was successfully delivered to the destination(s)
listed below. If the message was delivered to mailbox you will
receive no further notifications. Otherwise you may still receive
notifications of mail delivery errors from other systems.

                   The mail system

<x...@yahoo.com>: delivery via
    mta7.am0.yahoodns.net[67.195.228.109]:25: 250 ok dirdel"
