I wasn't either, but I want a Franziskaner ;-p for OP: sasl is a standard. and currently postfix supports two implementations: - cyrus sasl - dovecot sasl if you use dovecot, then dovecot sasl is the right choice with one limitation: it only works for "smtpd" (when you authenticate to postfix) and not in "smtp" (when postfix needs to authenticate to another server)
