It would be very wrong for postfix to append the local domain to lookups of remote names; you can't have it both ways.
If you want to control internal hosts more carefully, require SASL authentication; if that's not painful enough, you can also require the credentials match the MAIL FROM command. You're just making your own life harder if you try to enforce HELO checks on your own clients.
