Me, neither. I run Slackware, but found her older Toshiba worked better with Xubuntu because the latter allows both wireless and sound to work with no hassles on my part.

Well, there were differences, but the perms should have been correctly set from the tape backup. Regardless, I changed the ones in /var/spool/mail to match yours. If that doesn't solve the problem ...
