As a relatively recent newcomer to Postfix (I've been running qmail since
2002 and Postfix since last year) I agree with that statement. More examples
would definitely be a good thing.

This mailing list is an absolutely excellent source for information and
specialist advise. But I also feel that I need to ask unnecessarily simple
questions just because I can't find an example of what I'm trying do while
not yet having a sufficient grasp of the Postfix system. Documents often
feel to me like "expanded RFCs": they state exactly – and usually in very
technical terms – how different parts of the system work. The bridge to
their application is often not obvious especially to someone who has started
using the system recently.

Individual command descriptions frequently have a brief example of that
specific item's use, and there is the "standard configuration examples"
section in the documentation, but often more advanced setups require a
coordinated use of various configuration parameters (e.g. the solution to my
question about "transposing" an incoming email to a different user/domain
and to be delivered at a different smtp interface that Victor helped me
with). Perhaps there could be a user-editable Wiki where Postfix users could
post examples for various configurations.

There seems to have been some
discussion<http://www.usenet-forums.com/mailing-postfix-users/186382-postfix-wiki.html>about
this in the past ("
PostfixWiki.org"), but PostfixWiki seems to be mostly an alternative
interface to the documentation plus some links to external Postfix how-to's.

Just some thoughts.. (and please pardon me for going off-topic).

Ville
