I like calling that "Email a victim" :) I once worked on a project which had a "Invite a friend" function. it wasn't really abused, but it required a lot of work. I used "Invite a victim" to explain the need for such work, and to motivate a "mailto:"; link instead, so that people invite their friends using their own mail system ... > but there are also legitimate referrals.
