My understanding is the RFC only requires postmaster and abuse to be
valid, NOT webmaster - and I've NEVER used hostmaster for anything...
I've used it for DNS issues, since the hostmaster address is commonly
used as the contact in SOA records. I don't think it's an RFC
requirement to use 'hostmaster@', though, so one should check first:
$ dig +short -t SOA example.com
dns1.icann.org. hostmaster.icann.org. 2007051703 7200 3600 1209600 86400
Note that the '@' is replaced by a '.' in the email address.
In any case, I think blacklisting based on hostmaster contact would be
problematic, since an SOA record can exist at an arbitrary level. You'll
ultimately find one, but you need to be careful how you apply this
information so you don't punish the wrong party.
