mysql has a huge presence. all adapters, plugins,
scripts, conversion tools, development tools, etc in
all the programming world were created against that
body of code with all the idiosyncrasies included. at
the moment mariadb is advertised as a binary drop in
replacement. but how long until the mariadb guys start
deviating more and more, fixing ages old nuissances
they can't bear to look at anymore, changing default
values, adding new features -- as forks tend to do.

until one day it will break. and then what?
repent all ye mysql users! repent!

long live postgresql :)
