I ask about azalia because it will probably be the better choice in the long term, offering more playback channels to allow multichannel/multistreaming. right now emu is probably easier to work with ... my gut reaction is 5 secs is too long of an interval for problems directly related to audio, unless you are using a huge buffer in a sound server or something along those lines.
