It seems the problem can be reduced to the following test programme. It
yields the same list of undefined symbols as cmus does.
$ cat >test.c <<EOF
#include <artsc.h>
int
main(void)
{
arts_init();
arts_free();
return 0;
}
EOF
$ cc `artsc-config --cflags --libs` test.c
