How annoying. I scp'd the tarball right off my laptop onto the
university web server and it is the same tarball that I am using. Is
there any other way that the checksum might differ?

The server is a solaris box, does that matter? I should hope not.

does tar ztvf [filename] list all of the files correctly? If so, then
run 'make checksum' again and try rebuilding the port.

I will try redownloading the file now too.
