It is strange to me. I'm using sendmail-8.17.1_3 with cyrus-sasl-2.1.28 without any problem. This message is sent using it. Which version of sendmail are you using? Did you rebuild sendmail after updating cyrus-sasl2. If you did not rebuild sendmail, please try to rebuild it. There might be binary compatibility issues.
