I mean a scenario like the following: the client and the server are connected by the same switch but they are in different IP classes (that is, they are routed); the default gateway is connected to the switch aswell. A packet starts from the client, enters the switch; then it exits on the port where is connected the default gateway; it routes the packet. The packet is for a local server, so it re-enters the switch from the default gateway port and exits on the one of the server. This makes the packet to enter and exit two times from your switch.
