Hello
I was reading some post about netflowds and Cisco routers.
Does anybody knows if its possible to use it with CISCO CATALYST 2970
Gigabit Switch ?
And if there is other way to collect smth from Cisco Switches please
write also in your spare time.
Hi,

I did some research into this last week. But it appears that simple switches like 2900 series and 3500 series are not capable of the NetFlow. The large chassis based switches (eg 6500 and maybe 4500 series) have support for a "NetFlow card".

My feeling is that you need at least a Layer 3 capable switch (eg 3550 EMI), as the Catalyst 2970 is only a switch.

I would love to be proven wrong on this, however...

What you CAN do, however, is setup a port mirror. You can either mirror individual interfaces or sets of VLANs to a designated port, where your counting machine can use pmacctd to listen in promiscous mode.
