Currently BBC used Flash for browsers and HLS for iPhone. BBC is retiring Flash and replacing it with DASH which is an international standard similar to HLS. BBC have not announced DASH as being publicy available but it is availabel in beta trial. An update to BBCiPlayer plugin is available which implements DASH and tidies up all the HLS patches. The update is test because BBCiPlayer DASH is new and could change and bugs have to be found.
