Plugins downloaded via the extension downloader do not end up in the
normal plugins folder.  I don't remember the exact location off the top
of my head, but I believe it is around the same location as the pref
files.  It's likely a hidden folder.  Like was mentioned in another
post you likely had multiple versions installed conflicting with each
other.
