Regarding a random mix by genre, the current *play some ...* syntax
already does that (see
https://mediaserver.smartskills.tech/commandref/PlayGenre.html#35). If
you say e.g. 'play some jazz' or 'play some modern classical' it will
play a random mix of all tracks with the specified genre from all across
your library. They will be shuffled whether the player or Echo in
question has shuffle enabled or not.

Similarly, *play something by ...* will play a random mix of tracks by
that artist (see
https://mediaserver.smartskills.tech/commandref/PlaySomethingBy.html#43).
For example, 'play something by Bob Seger' will produce a random mix
from all your Seger tracks.

Have you ever used those commands (they also have -stream -variants) ?
How would your proposed command(s) be different (except in respect of a
random mix from a specific year)?

MediaServer is supposed to keep the same list order as the LMS GUI
(default skin) shows. It does not move folders up to the top level. A
folder at the end of your favorites may indeed be nr. 24 if there are 23
other items before it. Let me check on the 0/1 for starting the count
though.
I've added some debugging to the favorites command so if you could
please just ask to list your favorites I can take a look at what LMS is
returning and how I might be messing it up somehow
