Did your Linux create /dev/videoX? Did you try xawtv -c /dev/videoX and then
set the correct settings (NTSC, etc.)

I have had several experiences wherein the chip is not properly recognized
so the loaded drivers do not work.  Or it is the correct one but you need to
pass the correct options to the driver.
