I have a blog entry that details how I ran Ubuntu 8.04.1
liveCD/USB on MSI Wind U100 notebook:

Gnome worked right away. Wired network also worked, but
WiFi has to be configured to work with the rtl8187 driver.

Otherwise, Ubuntu 8.04.1 is perfect for the MSI Wind U100.
