Hi all!

I seemt o bve having problems upgrading my kernel. I use yum, and
everythign sems to go perfectly. But when I boot, I get error messages and
the system hangs. The error messages have something to do with modprobe
looping. Then it stops.

I suspected it might be because I'm running an x86_64 kernel on an AMD64.
Below is the result of uname -a

    Linux host1.lan.mydomain.com 2.6.18-8.el5 #1 SMP Thu Mar 15 19:46:53
    EDT 2007 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

So I manually downloaded the latest x86_64 kernel and attempted to
install it using RPM. Here's the result

# rpm -ivh kernel-2.6.18-8.1.15.el5.x86_64.rpm
  Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
package kernel-2.6.18-8.1.15.el5 is intended for a x86_64 architecture

Wierd! I *AM* on an x86_64 architecture, am I not?

Thanks all! God bless!
