I guess I have learned my lesson. I was suppose to buy the cheapest HP
deskjet but the quality of the printer is not that good anymore unlike
previous models. The Canon printer looked more sturdy but at the cost of
being unusable in Kubuntu/Linux. Hoping to be successful using alien or cups
as Cocoy suggested.

Had the same problem with iPIXMA IP1000 before. I'm never buying Canon
