For a newbie (no offense meant), this might be a bit more involved, but a good exercise nevertheless. To the OP: if you still have the install CDs/DVD, use yum localinstall /path/to/mounted/install/CD/RPMS/gnome-desktop If you have net connection, yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment" man yum for more details.
