The error messages have not changed, at least as far as meaning is
concerned.  They both indicate that your DNS configuration is invalid or
non-functional.  What DNS server are your windows boxes using?  Is it
reachable to them given your network configuration?  Try pinging an IP
address rather than a hostname, such as 68.142.226.37 (one of Yahoo's
servers) and see if that works.  If it does, then you've got a DNS
issue.  If it doesn't then, your problem is much deeper.

How are you configuring the network parameters for your windows
machines?  DHCP?  Manually?
