Check your DNS settings, your windows client cannot resolve hostname. try to ping IP outside your net, if still you can't ping it you may need to setup NAT

Hello, ip forwarding suddenly stopped working on our gateway centos server yesterday when i used system-config-securitylevel to allow http.

To try and restart ip forwarding, I've tried using the commands:

/bin/echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
and
/sbin/sysctl -w net.ipv4.ip_forward=1

and it has resulted in the value of "1" when I enter
cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

and when i check sysctl.conf. I tried restarting the network and rebooting the machine, but the win clients still cannot surf, ping or tracert to the net.

Incidentally, the windows error reads "ping request could not find host www.yahoo.com. Please check the name and try again.", which has changed from "unknown host" probably due to some repairs i've tried to do.

please let me know if i am missing anything, where i should look, etc. Many thanks in advance.
