Boot from one of the LiveCDs, then access the /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow
and all relevant files on the HDD, remove the encrypted entries, then
reboot into installed linux. I think root password should now be
empty.

Disclaimer : These instructions should be used only as guideline and
may not be complete. I take no responsibilty for any side effects. It
is always advisable to have a backup of the files that you are
modifying, so that you can at least get back to 'existing' setup.
