Well, simplest would be, let it log you in the default user, then do logout. Logout option should be there in the K menu (should I dare say the 'Start' menu). After logout, it should present a login prompt. Enter root and root password to login as root!
If using KDE, go to: control center-> system administration -> login manager -> convenience Uncheck the autologin check box. Apply the changes (enter root password if required). This should work.
