Assuming it's an internal modem...

Those drivers must be for kernel 2.2 and 2.4. (I had a similar experience 
earlier)
SuSE 9.1 runs kernel 2.6.
Try linuxant.org and linmodems.org to find a driver that matches the kernel.
[$uname -r
 to find your system's kernel version]
