hmmm, the usual case for me is when I have 2 windows installations and 1 or
more linux installations on a harddisk, the linux bootloader (grub/lilo) has
only one windows entry. Selecting this entry takes me to the windows
bootloader, which is installed by XP(since in my case I've tried XP and 98
along with SuSE 9.0 & 9.2). Now this XP bootloader allows me to choose between
XP and 98.

Is it possible in your case that lilo is directing you to the wrong windows
partition (the one without a bootloader), and so it's not booting?!
Because I doubt grub/lilo will load windows itself, it'll merely transfer the
control to windows bootloader. And if no bootloader is found on a partition,
it'll probably just stay there.

But then, one question to think over is from where is the message "Loading
Windows" coming from? Is it lilo or is it the windows bootloader?

If it's lilo then you can try changing the partition to which lilo is
directing you when you select windows.

Otherwise windows bootloader has probably gotten corrupt!
You can try to boot to windows using a bootable CD and select repair mode. I
remember seeing some commands available with windows command prompt that
reinstall bootloader. But I didn't know much about it and when I tried to
re-install the windows bootloader, I ended up having a bootloader in MBR with
only 1 entry, that of XP and nothing for 98! :-O And ofcourse, it erased grub
from MBR. So I installed grub on my linux partition, made that partition, and
left MBR untouched. Then I had the following sequence:
PC power on->grub on active(boot) partition->linux boots if selected, else
PC power on->grub on active(boot) partition->windows bootloader(i guess this
was in the MBR)->windows boots when selected.

Well this is my inference from my observations. I haven't verified if I've
understood things correctly. Kindly correct me if I'm getting anything wrong.

Regards,
Kapil
