Hi Kapil, I'm not a Linux fanatic, but I advocate its use wherever appropriate. Most Linux enthusiasts are what I call "power users". I had been using windows for 4 years and was fairly conversant with its architecture before switching to Linux. What I like best about Linux is that the system is so modular and hides nothing from the curious mind.

Someone tells that >person that linux is better, and he should try it out. .... <edited> .... >These are 2 different classes of people, and maybe OSS will >benefit if OSS promoters do things to satisfy both! I agree with your observation. Unfortunately or fortunately, many OSS projects are targetted at the windows users. We end up imitating the windows look and feel most of the time (for eg: KDE and XMMS), who in turn imitates Mac look and feel. I feel this is simply a mental block. We have learnt to use far less user friendly mobile phones. I think the best way to convince people is to demonstrate its applicability. If I demonstrate to my friends that my Linux box can run hacker-proof Apache websites, have text editors much powerful than Word, can reduce hundreds of man hours of work by coding few lines of script and have the most amazing collection of software, all for free, some might be inspired. Some might shrug off and say 'Hey but I'm already more than happy with my Windows box'. I simply cannot convince the latter; like marketeers say, they are not your target segment.
