If I read you correctly, you are saying that there are people out there interested in having asterisk available to them. I agree - that is the reason I devote some time to maintaining asterisk in Debian, and would hope that more would do so: To more efficiently reach out to those who need asterisk. My point was another: When asterisk is properly maintained, there is no need for duplicating that work by custom-backporting it - regardless if sponsored.
