I would happily throw away avahi-daemon for any other impementation. The particularly nasty bug is that it will happily conflict with itself as soon a IPv6 is used, increment hostname to hostname-nnnn well into the five digit range while spewing gigabytes of logs. The bug report has been open in Debian and ustream for years without anybody caring, the most visible workaround being the universal advice to disable IPv6. Please, offer an alternative.
