I spent about a week harassing Earthlink, and every response I got was
another confused support rep. who asked if there was something wrong with
"the PHP on my hosting" space, or that "Earthlink is unable to assist
customers in matters involving PHP programming" and the like. It's a noble
effort, but seems to be a futile one.

Best,
John

Subject: [PHP-INSTALL] fight the autoresponders

I really hate that I have to reply to people directly,
due to the crapload of autoresponders, so I've taken
to harassing the owners of them on their own websites.

Check it, I posted the following on this messages

Hello,

The e-mail address [EMAIL PROTECTED]
is subscribed to the [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing
list. Every time anyone posts, we get around twenty
auto responder messages from e-mail addresses like
yours that were subscribed and forgotten about.
Please unsubscribe from the list, or turn off your
auto-responder, as you are filling our mailboxes with
trash.

Thanks
CM

Now, if everybody else here were to pick just one of
those goddamn auto-responders and put in a little
effort towards coercing them to unsubscribe, we might
get somewhere.

But it won't ever stop until some useless list admin
decides to be useful, as these auto-responders are
rendering our mailing list (a public service that at
one point they must have utilized themselves) nearly
useless.

CM
