WOW. Looks like I got httpd-2.0.44 and php-4.3.0 running. And pear appears to work, as well... Awesome. Tested Pear::DB, expat, things look ok. Well, they look ok from my humble little laptop -;^>= Many thanks for the pointer. My only note is that the SRPM for php required root to rebuild it (not normal user).
