After browsing through this list, I've noticed a large number of people having problems with PHP and MySQL. I'm running RH7 and have also had problems. I've read through many docs covering various versions and packages, and I'm amazed. Red Hat offers various RPMs like PHP, PHP-MySQL, MOD_PHP4 etc, but the descriptions are too inadequate to determine the best course of action. The same goes for the online docs at php.net. After wading through pages and pages of Large html files, I'm left feeling confused and frustrated. Could someone give a quick break-down of these different packages, and is it really necessary to download and recompile for MySQL support with something like the RH RPM "PHP-MySQL?" The description of this RPM says that it is a DSO that adds mysql support to PHP. If that's true, why bother to recompile PHP --with-mysql??? Considering the growing popularity and the number of problems reported with PHP/MySQL, perhaps it would be beneficial to make PHP binaries available that already had MySQL support. It would also be nice to have a page dedicated at http://www.php.net/ that specifically addressed these various MySQL issues. I'm willing to offer any help I can. Wading through documents for hours and pulling hair in frustration is no fun, but at least I'm getting away from MS products!!
