Dear all For the last two years CRASSH has hosted a reading group on the intersection of anthropology and philosophy, convened by Jonathan Mair in 2012/13 and the previous year by James Laidlaw and Hallvard Lillehammer. Jon had expected to be convening a similar set of meeting this term, but is away on fieldwork at present. We have agreed to convene the group this term. (Jon will be back and able to join us in the second half).
This message is to invite you to join this term's reading group. The book we have selected for the term is : Mark Alfano, Character as Moral Fiction (Cambridge University Press, 2013). It's an attempt to find a middle ground between virtue ethics and the situationalist critique. The dates and times set aside for us at CRASSH (the Alison Richard Building on West Road) are the same as last year: alternate Tuesday lunchtimes. We shall meet 12.30 - 2pm. The dates this term are: Tues 22nd Oct, Chapters 1 and 2 Tues 5th Nov, Chapters 3 and 4 Tues 19 Nov, Chapters 5 and 6 Tues 3rd Dec, Chapters 7 and 8. If you would like to join this term's reading group please let us know. We shall circulate pdfs of the relevant chapters in advance of the meetings to those attending. Best wishes James Laidlaw & Paul Sagar
