Hi Nick

Back up your valuable data before starting. If it's too unstable to backup,
download a live distro, boot from that and backup then. While partition
managers are much better these days, repartitioning is always something a
person can mess up

Regards
Derek

Subject: [Peterboro] Help needed re-installing linux

Hello Guys (and gals?)

I am (relatively) new to Peterborough, and am having problems with linux
installed on my laptop. Would someone be kind enough to come and help me sort
it out?

Have been using linux last four or five years and have tried various installs
of Ubuntu and Arch on my Sony Vaio PCG-8Z1M. Up until recently it all worked
fine, but the latest Ubuntu upgrade has left my system unstable. Not entirely
sure if it is the OS or the hardware that is playing up. I have remnants of
various installs on different partitions. Ideally I would like to wipe out all
installs and start again from scratch.I am reasonably happy tinkering with
settings, terminal or command-line, but just feeling a bit out of my depth with
this situation, particularly when it comes to formatting partitions. I have
some valuable data in one partition which I would rather not lose.

I understand that you guys meet up once a month, and that might be a good time
to come and get some advice. However, I have missed this months meet and would
like to get this sorted before next meeting. If anyone is willing to help me
out then please do let me know. I live just off Sugar Way in Peterborough.

Nick
