The immediate answer that comes to mind is Squeezebox.
It started out independently but has now been bought out by Logitech.
I am pleased to say that this has brought the price down to a
manageable level.

There are UPnP-based alternatives, like using the minidlna daemon on
your linux machine to present music to a network-enabled Yamaha A/V
receiver.
