I also have an nVidia graphics card, but haven't yet tried to install the
proprietary driver.

The installed drivers seem to be doing a pretty good job and the only time
I've noticed any slight problem was when I ran Google Earth.

I always run into a whole lot of grief whenever I install nVidia drivers,
because my monitor doesn't comminucate its EDID file and I have to edit the
nVidia config file to point it at a downloaded version, which the manufacturer
sent me.

The only other update I'd mention is that although KDE is visually better than
Gnome (IMHO), the settings are far less intuitive and in some cases, downright
obscure. A few trips to the KDE and openSUSE forums got most of this sorted,
although the one remaining irritant is a non-functional microphone, which has
me baffled.
