Jon,

I took part in the MOD Grand Challenge
(http://www.science.mod.uk/engagement/grand_challenge/grand_challenge.as
px) a few years ago. I coded the linux based controller for our robot
and put together several embedded processor sub-systems.

I still have the brains of the robot, which is an Arcom board runing
ecos which I programmed in C++.

I also play with Arduino and Pic boards for fun.
