Peer-to-peer (P2P) just simply means a network of "peers", ie where all connected nodes are equal. This is as opposed to the server-client model that is more common on the Internet. However Steve is is right that most small network systems are p2p - two home machines can connect to each other without one of them being "the server". With Skype, the point is that if I call you then the connection is essentially between myself and you, and does not go through a central Skype server (except presumably for establishing the connection). Furthermore I think Skype will route calls between "customers" A and B via customers C&D who aren't involved with the call, but still the data isn't (for the most part) going via Skype's servers. -- Mark Rogers // More Solutions Ltd (Peterborough Office) // 0844 251 1450 Registered in England (0456 0902) @ 13 Clarke Rd, Milton Keynes, MK1 1LG _______________________________________________ Peterboro mailing list Peterboro@mailman.lug.org.uk https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/peterboro
