I have been using 9.10 almost form day 1 as my main PC.

I had no problems installing it and it has run almost faultlessly since
- apart from 15 mins ago when the GUI crashed!! Well there is a first
time for everything.

* Like Richard I do not really like the login screen
* Its boot time is not significantly faster in my opinion than 9.04
* I am having trouble with Nautilus displaying thumbnails of pictures
from a network store. If the folder has . In fact when he needs to goa
large number - 280 odd (!) it gets to about 100 then jams up using all
CPU and almost all memory! I cannot remember if that was the same in
9.04 so criticism may be unfair

My son also uses it on a Dell Laptop - dual boot almost exclusively. He
has had no trouble at all, EXCEPT the other day when it refused to boot
at all saying that a file was missing. As getting his A level essay
written was more important than fixing Ubuntu, he switched to Vista and
his problems began! The wireless connection which is rock-solid in
Ubuntu is very intermittent in Vista! Any way he will try to fix on
Saturday

All in all it seems a good upgrade as far as I can see.

Subject: [Peterboro] Initial thoughts on Ubuntu 9.10
Date: Thu, 17 Dec 2009 12:38:22 +0000

This months LXF mag had Ubuntu 9.10 on the coverdisc so i thought i's
try it out on my laptop.

I havent used it extensively as I had to resort back to the version of
Ubuntu 9.04 from the coverdisc a few months back that runs xfce, that,
in part may not be directly caused by the new version rather my old
laptop only seems to run at any decent speed with xfce rather than
gnome.

Anyway intitial thoughts:

I like the new boot sequence graphics, looked kind of cool
The login screen sucks compared to 9.04, mainyl because theres no option
to get rid of the username selection.
