I use exteriors perimeter treatments a lot. In spring as it warms up and in the fall as it cools. I do feel like they help at those targeted times of year. Modern pesticides that most companies use are micro encapsulated which allows them to break down slower giving 90 day coverage and also the ability to grip onto surfaces and not get washed away by rain or precipitation this helps prevent migration of product. Anything like Talstar P or Onslaught should show a benefit. They should never be used near flowering plant materials if any bees are feeding at the time of application is really the only precaution which is the responsible thing to do and is on most labels anyways. Also make sure they do not spray close to any HVAC fresh air intakes. You can also do a trial run and see if your pest counts drop before making any long term commitment. Don’t let them pressure you into a contract. Ask them for a discounted trial treatment on a building that you could quantify and judge if it helps. JTV

Do not click links, open attachments or take action unless you know the contents are safe] Hello all, I am wondering if any of you can give me feedback on insecticidal ‘barrier sprays’ around building/at doors and windows. Do you use them in your institution, and do you find them to be effective in reducing arthropod ingress into your building? We are discussing whether or not to use them around doors in our building. The pest control people say they work for several months, but our entomologists are sceptical that they are effective for more than a few hours. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts, input, or research on this topic. And happy holidays! Thanks!
