Hi Marna,

We have a fluctuating booklice population in our collection storage areas. As
their damage to our collection materials would be truly microscopic, I regard
them mostly as an indicator species for humidity/moisture around our collection
storage areas (following MuseumPests). They were helpful in starting
conversations with management and facilities about humidity and moisture near
our collections, such as mechanical spaces, HVAC installations, leaks, etc.

One IPM specialist did suggest diatomaceous earth behind baseboards to prevent
their spreading, but MuseumPests states that this has not been found to be
effective.

Curious to read other's opinions!

All my best,
Fleur van der Woude

External Email

I'm pretty sure because there were both booklice and springtails in the traps.

Thank you!

You have had an ID done and are certain they are booklice and not springtails?

Hi,

We are seeing booklice in traps in our collections storage area in one of my
parks. The humidity is in a good or even at times a lower range. I know
cleanliness and humidity control is a good defense against them. Is there
anything else we should be doing?

Thank you!
