Another moderate concern with them is that they poop on things, and their poop stains particularly fabrics and finishes. We had a lot of them in North Central PA, and my mother is an art quilter, so she had to be careful if one landed on her work to get it off before it left a deposit!

This email has been received from outside of DOI - Use caution before clicking on links, opening attachments, or responding. Josie, No, they don’t reproduce inside or chew on wood. They’re a nuisance and sometimes emit a nasty odor when handled. The concern is they found a way in, so you might want to check for any gaps around windows, doors, etc. Also, when they die inside they become meals for dermestids, which definitely do breed indoors and pose threats to museum collections. Thanks for the information, Dan! Do I need to worry about them reproducing while they overwinter in the museum? Do they eat wood furniture or anything? It's the first one I've seen so far, so hopefully I don't have an invasion on my hands. Definitely a conifer seed bug. They are not really accidental visitors…they venture inside to overwinter. Not in the same numbers as multicolored Asian lady beetles, brown marmorated stink bugs, or boxelder bugs, but common enough to be considered seasonal invaders. Hello all, Wanting a second opinion! We found this wandering the galleries. I'm fairly certain that it is a western conifer seed bug. We're surrounded by a pine forest so it would have plenty of food, and I think it's just an accidental visitor. Does anyone agree or have a differing opinion? (Apologies if the image is a little low quality. It's actually alive and won't stop moving in the bag long enough for me to take a picture with my dino lite) Thanks very much!
