We have a raptor department with daily programs. The raptors get wheeled on a cart (while in pet carriers) through my temporary exhibit area every day. The raptors have not been a problem. I did take issue with one of the raptor folks a couple of years ago who I discovered was cultivating yummy mealworm snacks for the raptors in a work space adjacent to my collections storage area (bugs LOVE to crawl under doors). I pitched a fit and she moved the mealworm farm back to the mews, which is in an outside building.
People have a tendency to think in terms of their own programs, and not realize when they are encroaching in ways they should not. The comments below are to the point. The biggest pest concern is the food for the animals. With birds of prey it will likely be dead mice or scraps of meat kept in a cooler. As long as all residues are cleaned up you should not have a problem. That also goes for the birds themselves. Are they going to be in the museum for any length of time? Precautions as to housekeeping can be taken. When we have the animals in the galleries or public spaces we always make sure to have a drop cloth down where they will be. This aids in clean-up. If these are there for only a short time there should be no big concerns. If this is an ongoing program, then there are some other standards and laws that must be looked at.
